Homegrown Birthday Cake

Fenton Barns Nursery encourages its little ones to make the most of their surroundings. The extensive countryside on its doorstep provides a natural playground for the children to explore.

So when it came to creating a 5th birthday treat for the nursery, it was very apt for cook Liz to whip up a cake using five key ingredients (thyme, blackcurrant, plum, mint and nasturtiums) which were grown by the children in the nursery garden.

The nursery staff also took the opportunity to highlight some of their favourite memories from the past 5 years. Watching the children build a go-cart together was a highlight, as was the children running outside in the pouring rain to splash in the biggest, muddiest puddle they could find.

Caroline Freeman, co-founder and co-owner of Fenton Barns Nursery is very positive about the next five years and beyond. “Our friendly, homely environment is one where children learn through play and quality lead experiences," she says. "We'll continue to use the countryside on our doorstep as much as possible, and we're excited to look ahead to helping future generations of children to grow and thrive.”

Fenton Barns Nursery is a private early Learning and childcare centre focusing on outdoor learning experiences and healthy lifestyles.
