EFUF was born in 1986 when a group of NCT members decided to produce a pamphlet for parents and carers in Edinburgh and asked for a loan from Edinburgh NCT. The publication quickly grew − into a book, in fact, and was first published in 1987. It was such a success that it had to be reprinted that year (and the loan was paid back in full).
Sales of the book ensure we can produce future editions, and profits are used to support NCT projects in Scotland. Over the years we have helped pay for things like supporting the former Edinburgh Office at the Stockbridge Health Centre and training NCT antenatal teachers and breastfeeding counsellors.
Edinburgh for Under Fives is run by a committee of volunteers, all of whom are parents and carers, and one of whom has been involved since 1986!
About our researchers and contributors
We rely on a large team of volunteer researchers to provide the content for Edinburgh for Under Fives. The book simply could not exist without them. You can find out who these wonderful people are on our researchers and contributors page.
About our helpers
Edinburgh for Under Fives doesn't work alone - we have an amazing group of professional helpers, most of whom are parents and carers, some of whom aren't. These people and organisations either give their time and expertise for free or for vastly reduced rates. They include David Hamburgh who designed the book and Bad Dinosaur who created this website. Thank you too, to MADE Magazine and the Nurseries Guide for helping us build our readership base, to Andrew Jamieson for his ongoing support, and to Marie of MAMi Designs for assisting us with our promotional materials.
